Serse

The beautiful Handel opera Serse is full of drama. Betrayals all round - knife at your throat kind of drama. But before all that, King Serse takes a moment to pay homage to the beautiful tree that has given him peace, cool contemplation and quiet shelter in the aria "Ombra mai fu".

This aria is a popular audition and performance piece. Did you know (I didn't) this aria was the first piece of music to be played on radio (Click here to read more information about this broadcast milestone from Wikipedia).
