Das Rheingold

The first opera of Wagner's Ring Cycle, Das Rheingold tells the story of the beginning of time. A dwarf makes a terrible bargain to forswear love, which gives him the power to enslave all reality. The Gods steal his treasure to pay off some giants and the curse he lays on the golden Ring of his power drives the narrative of this epic drama. Full of magical, majestic music, this is the story of betrayal that begins the turning of the world's story.
