The Royal Riddles Bracelet is inspired by the deadly riddle contest in Act 2 of Puccini’s Turandot. In front of the court, Calaf must answer each of the three questions correctly or lose his life. If Calaf is successful, he wins the princess and becomes emperor of China. The act contains one of my most favorite scenes in opera as Turandot and Calaf prepare themselves for the contest. She proclaims "Death is once", he counters "Life is once" and if you aren't shaking in your shoes as they belt this out together, nothing can move you!
I chose icy blue beads and crystals to represent the iconic ice princess Turandot. Tiny touches of blood red indicate the fate of those who fail to answer the riddles correctly. The three answers: hope, blood and Turandot, are symbolized by a star, a deep red droplet and a delicate crown.
All "Inspired By..." Series Bracelets come with a card that identifies the symbolism of the charms and colors used.

I got this (and Nessum Dorma bracelet) as this is my love's favorite opera. This makes for a wonderful gift to opera lovers as it is significant to the music but can still be worn for any event. She loves it and appreciates the design and craftsmanship.
